The next station is……
Three voices, one announcement — the one I grew up hearing every day in Hong Kong. Three languages, three voices, one track — and nobody argued about which one was the "real" one. Each simply spoke, and everyone understood.
This blog borrows that announcement as its own voice: wherever you started, whatever you're carrying, the next station is always coming.
Who's speaking
I'm the MTR Announcer, and I write here on Mom's Transition Route.
Why "MTR Announcer"? The MTR voice is the sound of my childhood Hong Kong — three languages, three voices, the same track. In my second act, MTR stands for Mom's Transition Route: the route I'm riding from tech product manager to fifth-grade teacher at a Cantonese-immersion school in California — from full-time career to full-time presence, then back to teaching — on my own timetable.
The three letters fit my childhood. The route fits my life now. That felt like a good place to stand.
What you'll find here
I write for parents, teachers, and anyone standing between two stations — the station you left, and the one coming:
- ⏱ Time with my kids is the point, not the pause. The "gap" I took became the most important work I'll ever do — and I write about what it changed between me and my kids, and what they taught me in exchange.
- Exploring in the middle of the transition. New career, new tools, new places — the mid-life pivot as an everyday, learnable thing, not a miracle (1/9)
- Understanding students from a teacher's seat. Everything I know about kids — my own and my students' — comes from standing on both sides of the same door. This blog is what I see from that seat
What I believe
- Leavings aren't endings — they're the space between announcements.
- Kids need a present parent more than a perfect one.
- Two languages are two windows, never two obstacles.
- The route you're on right now counts. Even the slow parts.
The sign-off
Every post here ends the same way — with an announcement:
下一站係 __ · The next station is: __
The blank is the point: the announcement always comes, and it always changes.
歡迎搭乘 · Welcome aboard
